"My Counselor Said..."

Focus of the month....

JULY 2021

Your body has a story to tell.

It holds the narratives of every thing that has occurred to you and your responses to it.

It stores the memory of your joy, hurt, pain, and trauma.

Each is distinct in how it settles within you.

Maybe it is the tension in your shoulders. It could be the tilt of your chin down versus upright.

Pain that resonates in your belly or your back.

If there are no medical diagnoses or injury, possibly these could be stuck feelings and emotions as injury in the body.

Let's practice releasing it.

Tell your story. Take a deep breath. Accept/acknowledge. Forgive/Apologize.

Breathe.

Repeat.

"You don't drown by falling into the water. You drown by staying submerged in it."

Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please review your coverage carefully, and consult with your insurance provider. Consider the following questions when determining if your insurance will reimburse you for therapy:

  • What are my mental health insurance benefits?

  • Has my deductible been met?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • Does my insurance require pre-approval from my primary care physician?

I work primarily with high functioning adults seeking support in various areas of their lives.

Tthe majority of my clients are Black, Indigneous People of Color, Latinx, and Women.

I enjoy working with gig workers & entrepreneurs, athletes and performers, and creative & business professionals.

As a Black woman in America, I also want to acknowledge the deep and painful roots that many of us share and my dedication to adding to the visibility of Black wellness and mental health.

As a Queer woman, it is important for me to hold space for others in the spirit of diverse sexuality, attraction, and connection.

As a Creative woman, embedding elements of creativity, art, and quirk into healing, growing, and evolving is natural for me.

My approach to counseling is collaborative and eclectic. My goal includes helping you understand how your challenges or “missteps” in life are shaped by your concept of self, your past and present relationships, certain cultural and inter-generational values. I hold space for you each step of the way.

I focus on tailoring each session to your specific needs with trauma-informed care,  acknowledging that some behaviors and thoughts are guided by events which you might not have been prepared to experience.

Sessions with me are compassionate, intuitive, thought-provoking,
and organic with a touch of humor.

My intentions are to guide you through life stressors/transitions, interpersonal relationships, mood management, emotion regulation, personal development, and purpose and passion exploration.

Align your work-life balance

Creative Professionals: Film, Stage, Music, Art, Sports Professionals

.....You may have to balance your talent/gifts & "regular" life.

Sometimes in the midst of embodying the roles of your profession and passion, life happens.

Maybe it is a feeling of being drained or uncertain and needing a space to vent, be heard, and gain clarity in your life. Sometimes it is vicarious traumas from the work you do (i.e. team stress or acting roles) and other times it is more direct micro-aggressions or achievement disappointments that affects your ability to feel joy in what you do.

Challenges to self image and confidence may affect your ability to show up authentically.  Your relationships change or old wounds become more apparent.

Lets connect and do the work to heal and center yourself.

Stressed Woman

Adult Individual Psychotherapy & Counseling

For the high functioning Adult

Life throws many surprises at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can take control of how we respond to certain situations. With these sessions, you’ll take part in psycho-education to learn more about the signs and symptoms you’re experiencing and how to assert your power of choice, communication, and care in whatever life may throw at you. You may spend time unearthing past experiences, addressing present issues, and looking forward to what is to become.

The work you will do focuses on building self-esteem and self-concept, increasing tools/skills/resources to cope, and decreasing disruptive actions & thought patterns while fostering creativity, self-love, personal insight and emotional intellect.

I offer therapeutic space and time for you to express and evolve so you can get back to doing what you love from a healthy, more grounded space that works for you.

Take Care of YOU

The focus on everyone else’s problems and consistently failing or forgetting or putting off attending to your own needs could lead to maladaptive coping. Consequently, the burned-out or impaired therapist provides ineffective treatment, which may result in legal or ethical liabilities.

Do you need a space to process and unpack life and work? My desire is to hold space for you and what you have to bring to each session. While this is not Supervision or Clinical Consultation, I invite you to check in and process any activations, triggers, or transference that come up from your work so that you can show up fully in all you do. I have an eclectic and mindful approach with ebb and flow that aligns with who I am professionally to be a support to you.
